Well, stole the show for those who enjoy pull-ups more than extreme snow-sports, at least. Ever since I saw the iconic leg-lamp from the timeless movie classic A Christmas Story, and the exaltation that it brought its proud owner, I had longed for my own major award (Scene in question). This year, I'd get my chance. But it would take more than knowing the name of the Lone Ranger's nephew's horse; this was going to require a feat of strength.
The task: complete more pull-ups than all competitors of the day.
The stakes: one limited-edition Navy / X Games snowboard.
I found out about the the Navy Seal's Winter X Games pull up event five days prior to showtime. I got strategic, and planned two workouts to cram into my limited prep time. First, I had to hop on the bar and see where I stood: twenty three, and a little sloppy. I expected the contest to require strict dead-hang form (which it did), so I knew there was work to be done.
Today officially begins Winter X-Games 15, being held at Buttermilk Mountain in awesome Aspen, CO January 27th-30th, and though I won't be there until Friday, my nerves are already tingling with excitement!! Aspen is certainly cool enough on it's own, but with the added extreme adrenaline running through the hills one can't help but be a bit overwhelmed in the best way ever!!
Easily the most legitimate excuse on the list, the threat of cold related injury can scare even the most dedicated Aspenites off the road to fitness. Though very important to be aware of, fear of these problems need not stifle your progress. Serious conditions like hypothermia and severe frost bite make for an easy cop-out, but are even easier to avoid in the first place.
Keystone, CO- The Winter X Games is one of the most exciting events to come to Aspen all year long. The town is bustling with the influx of visitors, here to cheer on their favorite winter sports athletes. But the X Games excitement isn’t limited to the sporting event. The town is chock-full of exciting after parties and this year, a Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert headlined by Big Boi on January 29th at 5:30 p.m.
Aspen, CO - Music moves me... and it surely soothes the soul of this savage beast as well!! It's notes move through me like a cool running creek and I NEED it in my life like I need air to breathe. Many of you reading this might think I'm being a bit dramatic but those of you who feel as I do about music and those who make it KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THIS CHICK IS TALKIN' ABOUT!!
I was lucky enough to grow up ½ hour away from a pretty large outdoor amphitheater, Saratoga Performing Arts Center or SPAC for those of you out there who might be from the part of the country that I spent my “early life” rocking it out. Friends and I spent countless summer hours hanging out in the parking lot, before the shows, playing Frisbee, smoking ciggies and swilling a bit of sauce yet we all knew why we were really there!!! Whether it was Eric Clapton, Elton John, Heart, The Steve Miller Band, The Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Phish, Ozzy Osbourne, etc., it was ALWAYS about the music that was going to fill our ears and the melodies that would get our feet moving and for that I am and will be forever grateful!!
