Liquid Sky and Junk

In 1982, Russian film director Slava Tsukerman directed and released a colorful and erratic sci-fi film about space aliens migrating to New York City to prey on human endorphins. The film, titled Liquid Sky, became a midnight movie phenomenon, as well as a cult classic to many left-of-cool cinephiles.

March Madness Hoops Hangouts: The Best Sports Bars in Aspen

It doesn’t take much to picture the scene in office buildings around the country: talk of the latest basketball gossip over the water cooler while eager middle management overlords distribute Xeroxed brackets. The intern or mailroom clerks organizing company-wide betting pools.

Matt at His Best: Aspen.com writer steals the show at Winter X Games 15

Winter X Games pull-up competition Aspen ColoradoAspen, CO-

Well, stole the show for those who enjoy pull-ups more than extreme snow-sports, at least. Ever since I saw the iconic leg-lamp from the timeless movie classic A Christmas Story, and the exaltation that it brought its proud owner, I had longed for my own major award (Scene in question). This year, I'd get my chance. But it would take more than knowing the name of the Lone Ranger's nephew's horse; this was going to require a feat of strength.

The task: complete more pull-ups than all competitors of the day.
The stakes: one limited-edition Navy / X Games snowboard.

I found out about the the Navy Seal's Winter X Games pull up event five days prior to showtime. I got strategic, and planned two workouts to cram into my limited prep time. First, I had to hop on the bar and see where I stood: twenty three, and a little sloppy. I expected the contest to require strict dead-hang form (which it did), so I knew there was work to be done.

My Extreme Aspen Experience: ESPN Winter X Games

ESPN Winter X-Games 15 at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, COESPN Winter X-Games 15 at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, CO ASPEN, CO I got to spend 3 days in Aspen... DURING THE X-GAMES NO LESS!! It was a great experience that came along with a few “bumps and bruises” but I surely wouldn't trade a moment of it!

I live in Eagle and have attended at least 1 day of the “Games” each Winter since they've been in Aspen. This year was different in the manner that I got to stay Fri-Sun... had condo accommodations and lift tickets for Buttermilk! It was like I had hit a mini jackpot! I jumped on the opportunity to immerse myself in the Aspen Winter X-Game 15 experience that seemed to have just been laid at my snowboard boot covered feet :)

National Geographic Comes to Town. Carbon Follows.

You probably missed this story: 300 leaders of Alcoholics Anonymous met in Aspen to toast the New Year with copious amounts of champagne and single malt scotch.

Or the 300 Weight Watchers meeting in Aspen to gorge themselves senseless on brownies and hot fudge sundaes.

Neither really happened. But, even stranger, this did:
Three hundred environmentalists from around the world last week came to Aspen to spend three days complaining about people who are ruining the environment with huge carbon footprints from traveling to beautiful and remote places? Like Aspen.

New York Pizza

Located at 409 East Hyman, on the Hyman Avenue Mall upstairs from what is currently a Billabong store, New York Pizza has been an Aspen institution practically from the day it opened in 1993. Serving up big, foldable New York-style slices, sub sandwiches, salads, soda and beer in a no-frills atmosphere, N.Y.

OUCH

A few months ago my husband Wade and I woke up to rain. We tried to be optimistic and not comment on the fact that Global Warming was putting a real damper on our skiing. We had pancakes, talked softly so as not to wake up our four year old who was staying home with his grandparents, and took off for skiing.

OUCH RECOVERING

Adding an injured or sick husband to a mother's already frantic life will push mommy to the edge of the edge. Once again my placement as the youngest girl in my family comes into play. I was not raised to take care of people. I was raised to be the cutest and most adorable charmer and to be taken care of.

People of Aspen: Will Everyone (Else) Please Leave.

Aspen would be a pretty cool place if everybody (else) would just leave. That’s the message loud and clear that an increasing number of public and private personalities are delivering all over Pitkin county.
