"It's RUMMAGE Time!!"

Rummage - American Gothic Portrait.: Bought at the Minturn Rummage Sale."American Gothic" print for $25.00!Rummage - American Gothic Portrait.: Bought at the Minturn Rummage Sale - American Gothic print for $25.00! ASPEN,CO I'm what many people call "thrifty"... not because I'm cheap but rather because I'm a regular at thrift stores, yard sales and especially the yearly Minturn Rummage Sale. "Why?" Well I think it's ridiculous to pay full price for anything and because Eagle County, as well as the surrounding areas, have quite a few places to find the coolest, trendiest, classiest AND least expensive clothing, antiques, shoes, household goods, furniture and just about everything else I might need on this journey through life, at an extremely cost efficient price!

"These Days" Falling Down!!

These Days I find it hilarious that no matter how beautiful and how peaceful this area is people "Fall Down" ya know what I mean? They lose it! They unravel! I awoke this morning to an incredible morning. the sun high in the sky finally. The mountains so white and outlined by the great rocks peaking through them were picturesque.

10 Reasons to Visit Aspen During the Off-Season

Springtime in AspenSpringtime in AspenASPEN, CO - Spring in the Roaring Fork Valley isn’t quite like spring everywhere else: snow blankets the mountaintops, the red clay gets soggy with snowmelt, contractors and landscapers go to work on multimillion dollar home improvement projects, and locals – ready for a little rest and relaxation after a busy ski season - flee the off-season doldrums for warm, sunny destinations like the California coast, South France, Florida, and Las Vegas. Even the seasonal employees participate in the mass Aspen exodus. This is the time of year when Aspen’s streets are empty, with a number of hotels and restaurants boarding-up until June, when the summer travel season officially begins.

A Poor Man's Bonnaroo

Recession has become a four-letter word. Soon, it’ll be bleeped out on the next super-violent but profanity-free TNT movie weekend; they can maim each other, fornicate and execute one another execution style, but please- no F-bombs, or the R-word.

A close cousin to the word, however, offers both an opportunity and a common word root: recess. And just like at the schoolyard, there seem to be more people running around, with a lot more free time on their hands. Free time, but no money, there’s the rub…unless, you head to Karaoke.

A Smoothie Full of Feel Good, Coming Right Up.

Being healthy starts from the inside out, and during these cold winter months, we often find ourselves feeling a bit sluggish or worn down. It's easy to load up on warm comfort foods during the snow season, but out of proportion, these carb and starch heavy meals don't always provide the balanced diet we need to keep our immune systems strong, and bodies in tune. For this week's blog post, I want to share with you a smoothie recipe, handed down to me from my friend Nora, that's power packed with kale, cacao, brazil nuts a hint of cayenne and more. This blended smoothie is a sure fire way to keep your body healthy, and your taste buds happy all winter long.

Advanced/Expert Skiers: Skiing Snowmass

Larger than the other three Aspen ski areas combined, Snowmass has a well-deserved reputation as an intermediate skier’s paradise. Look beyond the manicured cruiser runs of the Big Burn and Elk Camp, however, and you will find that Snowmass has some of the best and most varied expert terrain in Colorado.

Arnold Makes Aspen Bear Famous -- Yes, That Arnold.

Some bears are born famous. Others achieve fame. And some have fame thrust upon them.

And when the history of Aspen bears is written many years from now, surely no bear will have as much world-wide attention thrust upon it, however briefly, as the 800-pound bronze bear created by Steven Bennett, purchased by Arnold Schwarzenegger, sold at Aspen’s Royal Street Fine Art gallery, and now sitting in front of the governor’s office in Sacramento.

Aspen Beetle Haters: Fight the Power!

No. No. No. No. No.

People who want to stop the beetles from destroying the forests of Aspen first have to fight a pest even bigger and more obnoxious. More determined. Maybe even smarter: Environmentalists.

So let’s start with a reality check:

1) Enviros are crazy.

2) Enviros in and out of Aspen are controlling what happens to the beetles.
