Colorado has stolen my heart for so many reasons; the champagne powder, bluebird sunny days, rip-roaring rafting and its denizens' devotion to supporting sensational music. It's hard to pick the number one attraction, but I will say, there's something undeniably fulfilling about a soul wrenching musical performance. During the summer months, Colorado flourishes with some of the country's most impressive outdoor music venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, State Bridge, Telluride's Town Park and so many more. Our winter snow globe landscape however, usually limits us to indoor venues, until last year's introduction of SnowBall Music Festival.
SnowBall Music Festival debuted in 2011, and is back for seconds March 2nd 3rd and 4th 2012 and takes place in the Vail Valley's Nottingham Park. Like Colorado, it's hard to pinpoint my favorite flavor in the SnowBall stew. The festival provides ticket holders with a stellar artist lineup, awesome outdoor venue and dynamite crowd. The vibe is unlike any other music festival I've attended. The attendees are hardcore. Colorado cold weather warriors rally in the name of getting down to their favorite artists.
In 2011, cold weather and snow only made us dance harder. There was a serious sense of togetherness and appreciation shared by both the crowd and the artists. Highlights for me included performances by Lazerdisc Party Sex, Lotus, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zereos, Classixx, Pretty Lights and a confetti and snowfall filled festival closer by the Flaming Lips. Each night the shows end before midnight allowing you time to head back to your hotel to warm up, or bolt straight over to the numerous after parties.
This year's lineup is soon to be announced, but tickets are already on sale. If you're weary of spending that cash without seeing the lineup, consider the fact that patrons are so set on returning for round two that ticket sales have already sold out for tear one and two price brackets. Other things to consider with the purchase of your ticket include lodging options and ski passes to nearby mountains.
